Playing the Earlsdon Cottage always feels like going home and we shall return to our old front room on July 9. Not in a cosy fireside, take out the slippers, light the pipe, shout ‘How long is it ’til tea love?’ and then watch the news kind of way but in a ‘it’s Friday night, made it through another week, let’s get the weekend going’ sort of mood.

Full marks to Steve and Kev at the Cottage in that they are becoming increasingly persuaded to go back to the future – ie return the ‘new’ old place to its live music roots. Having re-launched the venue with a different theme in mind, the push for live music from real, live musicians is underway again. At the moment I guess ourselves and our fellow troopers playing down there are the small acorns from which an oak may grow. It will need plenty of nurturing from the punters but hopefully the days when live music was packing them in three/four/five nights a week can return.

The Sheratones were established in June 2007 to form a covers band that would try and cater to the musical tastes of all who hear them play, with tracks from early Elvis, Beatles, The Stones, Through all the decades; Status Quo, Bowie right up the present day; Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon and just about everything in between.

The Sheratones have been described as being an exicting, energetic and entertaining live band that always leave an audience wanting more, so the only way to be part of the “The Sheratones” experience is to come and see us play.

 About this event

Welcome to the first Mercia Speed Dating Night with SpeedDater, the dating event of the year which will take place on Tuesday 24th August at the Earlsdon Cottage and is open to singletons aged 24 to 38.

About speed dating

Speed dating evenings are great fun. For best results we recommend you come along with an open mind and don’t take it too seriously. You’ll have a great time, you’ll meet lots of single people and you might meet someone special.

What happens at an event?

When you arrive you will see the Mercia Thunders with a SpeedDater host who will register you in to the event and give you a scorecard, a name badge and a pen, then invite you to have a drink at the bar. Once everyone has arrived the SpeedDater host will explain how speed dating works and answer any questions.

Then the dating begins. Usually women will stay seated while men will rotate every three minutes when the bell rings. After each date participants mark on a scorecard whether they would like to see that person again. At the end of the evening many people stay around to chat to the people they’ve just met.

After the event

At the end of the evening everyone takes their scorecards home with them to enter their ticks online on the SpeedDater website. It’s free to send and read messages to all other guests through this secure site.
